wasn't it! like the beating in LF was harsh too, but you couldn't actually get as much details as the description in that book. omg the eye part ><'
that scene in LF, right after he stopped beating her, was good. i liked that ^^
i just finished reading that book today. i really enjoyed it. it gives a lot of insight on how Afghanistan used to be, and a little on how it is now. i don't know how much of the latter can be true, seeing as the writer left Afghanistan in 1980 when he was still a kid. but i think he must have done some research ^^;
the style is really enjoyable and flows smoothly. he's got quite a few phrases that really struck me. i loved how he could have me laughing at one point and crying (really crying) just a few minutes later. it is so full of emotion. the story is quite touching, though it is kind of predictable in some points, all in all a really good read ^^ i wanna watch the movie next ^^ oh i also read A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author. That book is just as amazing, if not more ^^
LF: It's like Sousuke has this on/off violence switch that Michiru seems to trigger accidentally. The fact that she (or us even) doesn't know what the actual trigger is creeps me out the most. I mean even a simple text msg from a friend can turn Sousuke violent...
Kite Runner - Since I've been trying to get away from SF/F genre, I might give this book a try then.
Ahah you are the type to read a book and watch its adaptation then? Same as me. I don't understand why some people who have read a book refuse to see the movie adaptation. I mean, there are pros and cons for sure, but if you don't watch it, you won't be able to know what those are ^^;;
oh it depends. like i've read some Stephen King books and was very much disappointed after watching the movie adaptations (except for green mile, but i didn't read the book so XD), so now i kinda tend to not watch movies based on SK novels. but you're right; you can't tell unless you watch. like Harry Potter seems to be a big success -though i wouldn't really know cuz i haven't read the books and barely watched the first 2 movies.
i think in general it's really hard to make a good movie out of a book. especially when there's a lot of psychology and intricate details. i was told The Kite Runner movie cuts on a lot of details -which is normal- but all in all was good. this from a person that read the book too ^^
the trigger to Sosuke..probably things like that you learn when you live together. but who would have thought that immediately the day after she moved in with him he'd do that 180° change ><' when you don't expect it it's even scarier !!
It's strange, but even though I knew Last Friends would be about Domestic Violence, I still got very scared for Michiru when Ryo-chan started going nuts. Like, more than the actual hitting, I was scared of the creepy way he acted, the way he looked at her phone, questioned her for evidence, that type of thing. The music in the background was so perfect also. But even though it's so scary, it's realistic and I think important for the general public to be aware of. There are so many cases of domestic violence in the world that we just don't realize, you know? It's such a horrible cycle, and I really admire Last Friends for portraying it so bluntly and yet amazingly at the same time.
Haha, did that sound weird? I'm sorry, I get a little personally involved with these sort of issues lol
no it doesn't sound weird at all. you hit bull's eye. the scenes that surrounded the hitting part were the ones that had more effect on me too. when he kicked the table i jumped. and when he told her to go back home immediately ><' yeah i think they did a pretty good job ^^ and, as another friend mentioned, they actually used a johnny to be the bad guy. i don't think i watched enough dramas to say that's a first, but i found it quite... interesting! ^^ maybe to have people realize even better that, even if a person seems to be prince charming you never know. keep your eyes open, and don't be scared to fight back.
i didn't get sick during the beating scenes either... BUT i did get freaked out (in a bad way) everytime Sousuke came on screen cause i was worried for Michiru T_T on a side note: Ryo does a REALLY good abusive boyfriend o.o
LF reminds me of the dorama LIFE... both are controversial and intense yet awesome.
oh you're so right about feeling freaked out everytime Sosuke came on screen. I felt that way especially watching the second ep ><' It's like you can never know what to expect with him. I guess it makes things a little more intriguing. I also agree on the fact that Ryo-kun is doing quite a good job in this drama ^^;
Aaah, I never watched LIFE. you totally reminded me of that. i only read the summary. i wonder if i'll have time to watch it now. but, would i be able to watch 2 really intense dramas during the same period?! ><' maybe i'll just start downloading in the meantime ^^;
Mmm, Sousuke is quite scary... but for me it was more like I became nervous whenever he was on screen. I thought Ryo portrayed the character really well. And people should know life isn't always happy go lucky, there are darker themes to it! It's not a bad thing showing violence like this, it makes people realize how people's life can look like. Or that's how I interpretate it at least...
I love The Kite Runner, because it made me feel. Books are good when they leave traces like that, when it affects you. Hehe, I did cry to some parts of it. ^^
[Ghost in the Shell live action? Would be interesting if it acutally were to happen. ^^]

This is definitely way sicker than LF. That scene was actually one of the few that I did enjoy from the drama...
Is The Kite Runner worth reading? I've heard so much hype about this but haven't checked it out.
