[Tseng detests wide-open spaces and the illusion of eternity. The deck provides a 360 degree view of absolute nothingness - blue below, and the thin streak of smoke from his cigarette joining the clouds in the blue above.

The communicator picks up the soft, long drawn-out exhalation before he speaks.]If this network permits, I would like to speak ( Read more... )

[There's a clatter as Reno dropps his comm in surprise, or is it excitement?]

SHIT

[his voice is clearer now, and a bit shocked sounding. He'd know that voice anywhere.]

Closest there is to an authority is the Capitan who I haven't seen hide or hair of.

[There is a few seconds of dead silence, before-]

Reno.

[But if you're here as well, then-]

Is the President with you?

Nah, the fat bastard isn't here thank Shiva.

[a pause, Vincent was from his future so that could mean...]

Wait, which President? 'Cause I've been told by a reliable source that Old Man Shinra bit the dust and Rufus took over.

[What. The. Fuck.]

President Rufus Shinra - the very same we have served for six years since the former president's assassination.

[Tseng has not raised his voice, but his tone is clipped. Impatient.]

Talk, Reno. [The cigarette leaves his fingers and flies overboard. Tseng watches it go with knotted brows.] What is this?

It pleases the ship to do so.

How may assist you, my chattel?

How you can assist me will depend on who you are.

I am none other than Samuel Goldthwaine Robinson Junior-- among the most important and influential poet-passengers upon this vessel.

[He's going to give you a moment to let that sink in.]

[The moment passes. Tseng is unamused.]

I'm afraid that unless one of your poems details a way to get off this ship, you will be of no assistance to me.

The Captain does not speak with passengers, but you can try the crew.

I see.

Are the Captain's quarters... accessible?

missmimmi June 28 2010, 06:52:33 UTC
No one knows where they are.

Except maybe the Crew of course.

I get the general impression the crew are disinclined to talk. [And Tseng will take more time for observations before giving them any further encouragement.]

Are you a fellow passenger, ma'am?

Tseng? [there is a long pause while Veld is pinching his nose. A breath can be heard, but there is no notable tension in the old Turk Chief's voice. He mutters in Wutain curtly, but to himself]

And what time are you from now?

Sir. [The title is a habit that never went away.]

27th of June, 2010. [He was, just before, involved with digging out the remains of Deepground from the earth - no small task at all.]

Reno's given me a basic rundown of the situation. We're at Sergie's if you'd like to join us, or name a more private place to speak.

[And feels...the briefest urge to ask about Vincent Valentine. But it is probably best not to bring that up until Veld does.]

[bringing up Vincent Valentine would get you nowhere. It's best you don't]

Excellent. Yes. We can at least start there. There's a few places on the upper deck, like the cemetery, but I doubt privacy is needed at the moment.

...I wonder why Redd seems to have such a fondness for Turks.

[On active duty or otherwise.]

[Is that what Vincent still considers himself? The man's comment is too vague to tell, but it is something Tseng has wondered before, without any real dedication.

Because it wasn't relevant. Still isn't relevant.]

Perhaps it would be in our interests to find out.

Vincent Valentine. [Tseng makes it a point to always address this one by his full name.] ...How long has it been? [The question is posed like polite small-talk, but if what Reno said is true, then the answer will surely be telling.]

[He won't admit to it, but the fact remains that once you're a Turk, you will always be a Turk. So yes, on some level, Vincent does still consider himself part of the family.]

For me? Four or five months.

If what you said to Reno regarding your timeframe is accurate, however, it's probably a different story in your case.

[Because he listens in on everyone's public conversations, sorry. You may note he doesn't bring up the conversation with Veld, however.]

Last I saw you was just following the fight with the Remnants.

[And the time before that was when he saved Tseng's life in the forest, but that goes unsaid.]

For me, it's been three years since the fight, and I last saw you about four months ago at the WRO headquarters.

[So this is Vincent Valentine, not having seen the emergence of Deepground and the chaos that ensued. Tseng makes a mental note to be careful about future conversations, topics to tread carefully in, topics to avoid.]

What do you make of this? [The question is deliberately open-ended. Vincent can choose to say as much or as little as he likes.]
