But what would be the benefit for current LJ users?

I'd support this, although I think it would be better to allow a search or "latest 50 posts with this tag" rather than just an RSS feed. A lot of people don't understand how to use RSS very well.

However, I think when you make a suggestion, you shouldn't say (and I've noticed this a lot) that it would make LJ useful for research purposes only. People suggesting should explain why it would be useful for LJ users.

I agree that a "latest 50 posts with this tag" may be more useful to LJ members. Although, I think the usefulness of this (in general) is overrated, since tags vary quite a bit from user to user and community to community.

I'll use the standard "science fiction" tag. How many different variations of that tag exist that mean the same thing? SF, sci-fi, science_fic, science_fiction, speculative fiction, genre_SF, ....

Who do you think I am, triadruid? A terrorist?!?!

I am a researcher in the field of affective computing and autocategorization and I was just suggesting some functionalities that, in my opinion, could be useful either for LJ users (to better be able to perform queries to the system i.e. find any kind of blogpost they are searching for) either for researchers working in my field.

I've cited and used LJ in my last work for CAEPIA09 and I would like to keep on using it because I think is one of the best blog community in terms of contents and organization.

As I said in my other ODD suggestion, if LJ is used also in a scientific sphere it can gain more visibility and hence more users...
