anonymous posting

Short, concise description of the idea
I think the owner of a journal/entry should be able to mark all comments for that specific entry "anonymous".

Playing devil's advocate here (I don't really have any strong feelings about this one way or the other) a journal owner can say that they're only accepting anonymous comments, and, since it's their journal, delete or screen any comments made by someone under their own username.

And thinking about it again, the fact that I was posting anonymous might not occur to me until after I'd posted, given that sometimes I just scream through a comment with my fingers on autopilot, not paying much attention to my surroundings since I know everything that's there. No matter how much there is flashing, I might not notice that I was anonymous until it was too late ( ... )

I'm fine with this suggestion as long as it also turns off comment IP logging and there's a very clear warning above the comment box, something like "The journal owner has required that comments to this entry be posted anonymously. You will not be able to edit or delete this comment later."

I can think of lots of fun memes and other reasons why a truly-anonymous comment box may be valuable, so I'd support this.

are anonymemes and the attendant drama and wank something we really want to enable?

Yes. Livejournal should be an enabler of whatever individuals want in their journals.

I've never seen any drama and wank around any of the anonymemes I've participated in. (But then, I'm careful which ones I particiapte in... =:o} )

How would this work in locked/filtered posts and posts which restrict commenting to registered users/friends? Or would it be only be available to people who already allow anonymous commenting?

Personally, I'm against the idea (for reasons already shared here).

Sorry.

I actually don't see the problem, as long as the people commenting KNOW that they are only being allowed to leave anonymous comments. If they don't like it, they can choose not to comment.
