I think I've seen one around somewhere, yeah. At the very least, I can use LJaddons to display comments in flat, chronological order when I want to.

There's a URL argument to do that; I think it's something like ?view=flat.

I support this as an external services whitelisting. Although it isn't part of the usual LJ features, people do use them on other blog services, so some LJ users might find them useful. Maybe adding this as a sidebar widget?
