Title
Option to preview entry as it will display on Recent Entries or Friends pages

Short, concise description of the idea
I would like to have the ability to preview an entry just as it will display on a Recent Entries or Friends page view, including whatever lj-cuts have been used.

Please note that this would be in addition to the current preview ( Read more... )

Sounds useful.

I think another thing which would be helpful is, if on the confirmation screen after we have posted an entry, that if any code is broken (for example LJ cut), there would be a warning.

Something like 'your entry has been posted to your journal/such and such community successfully. However, LJ has detected that some HTML is broken.'

True, but I think a similar suggestion like that exists, just not as specific to lj-cuts. (At least, I think I saw one like that while looking through the tags to make sure this one wasn't a dupe.)

This one just deals with how an entry containing an lj-cut will appear, whether the code is b0rked or not. It would just be helpful to see where the cuts will show up and how the cut text will display, etc.

Hmm, that's a good point. I don't see any real downsides to this idea, so why not?

The main one I can think of is that it might not be feasible development-wise. Outside of that... yeah, I can't think of any at the time, either.

I have wished for this a few times.

I think a few LJ clients show the preview with lj-cuts, so I always have to disable them slightly to see the rest of the post first, or add them after.

Would be nice to have both.

Semagic shows the cut, and yep, I have to disable the cut so I can see how the rest will look.

You can also click on the cut, in Semagic, and it'll show the entry.

D'oh! *facepalm*

Ok, I'll have to try that next time.

I like the idea -- but I'm a person who literally posts every single entry 'private' to check them out BEFORE going Live. (Yeah, I know it's horribly anal
of me, but what can I say?)

The better the Preview provided, the less I'd find it necessary to do something so drastic, obviously...

But if it's going to take a lot of effort, I can always carry on as I already do -- and it's an option for anyone else, too...

This sounds like an excellent idea.

Yes please! I often edit entries 2 or three times after posting just to make sure that formatting especially around lj-cuts is the way I'd like it to look. And this would be less cumbersome than having to go out to the journal view to see if there's anything I need to change.
