I was wondering if LiveJournal would consider increasing the userpic limit for those of us who have free LJ accounts?

Maybe, but only up to say, 10, maximum. Basic accounts are that, basic. If you want more userpics, deal with ads or pay to upgrade.

Userpics are such a huge drive to upgrade to Plus/Paid accounts that sustain the site that I can't support this suggestion. A Paid Account costs $25 a year; you can save up allowance money for a few months and end up with that. If you really want more userpics, the cost isn't onerous at all.

By "free" accounts, are you referring to Basic accounts (maximum of 6 userpics), Plus accounts (maximum of 15 userpics - what you currently have according to your profile), or both? ( userpic limits FAQ, for anyone who needs it.)

I wouldn't mind seeing an increase for Basic from 6 to 10, happy holidays, but I think that's just me liking to see nice round numbers. I'm not sure how many more pictures Plus accounts could get added on before Paid users started to feel encroached upon (their current limit before userpic add-on and loyalty userpics is 30 icons). Even bumping Plus up to 20 or 25, I feel that would have to come with a proportionate base increase for Paid users up to 40 or 50.

Also, they've been talking about "a la carte" userpics in news fairly recently, though the last mention of that there was October 23. It was originally proposed here in lj_2008, but I haven't seen enough details posted anywhere to know if that would jive with your suggestion - will they be available only to Plus users, or to Basic users as well? How many a la

Actually, I don't think it would hurt to upgrade both Basic and Plus account icons (userpics) by five or ten.

But in the long run, this is one of the reasons many people decide to go Paid, so...

The thing is, if you give them five more, then six months down the road, they want another five. Heck, if you give them a hundred, then there'll be people a bit later saying that "A hundred is a bit constraining, can't we have a hundred and twenty? Just twenty more and I'll be happy." Whichever number you pick, you can't please people.

As someone else said, the limit for Basic accounts was already raised from 3 to 6.

Besides, I reckon basic accounts should go back down to three; at least it makes it easier to choose a pic 'cause there's not so many to deal with. I hate the perm. account where I've got so many user pic's they're running down my legs. ;)

On the serious side, just no. You want more, pay for them, or accept advertising (I can't believe I've just said that!).
