On JavaScript enabled browsers, show users a live preview of their entry or comment, as they type and add HTML codes.

If this ever would actually make it to the Post an Entry and comment forms, I see this as partnering really nicely with more tag insertion buttons for the html source editor. Users could toggle either of these on or off, and it would make better code than the Rich Text Editor while still feeling more approachable to users who do not easily remember HTML code.

Anything to promote comfort with html, yes. I really like the idea of previewing being faster and easier (and I thought this was brought up in another suggestion, but I don't see it under the preview tag). However, I'm concerned that adding tag buttons would slow down the browser. I like the editing areas - comments or entries - to be lightweight.

Maybe one click previews? Like the experience you get with quick reply windows? I have no idea if this is even possible.

I'm gonna be the person who says "as long as it can be turned off", because it would annoy me. But I can see it being very helpful to others, so I think it's worth exploring.

Why does everyone want to make the HTML editor more complicated? I like it as it is - as clean and simple as possible.

A preview is already available. You can preview your post anytime during adding code. I see no need for a live updating preview. That would, essentially, be turning the HTML editor into a WYSIWYG editor. That's what the Rich Text editor is there for. If you want to further bog down the RTE editor, feel free. But please leave the HTML editor alone.
