Title
Label screened comments so that the writer can tell that they're screened

Short, concise description of the idea
It would be helpful for those who have written a screened comment to be able to see some indicator icon or wording that shows that it is still screened.

Some styles show the comment slightly differently, for example, a gray header bar rather than a blue one in the regular comment view, but there's no explicit icon or text indicating this in most styles.

Should my earlier suggestion be rejected in favor of this one? While mine just focuses on the Lynx site scheme, this one is across-the-board and MUCH better explained and worded.

True. However, unfortunately, many of them don't have any indication, subtle or explicit.

Yes. I'd like it placed next to the comment subject, just like how the protected status is generally right after the entry subject. And, hopefully, with the same icon/alt-text/regular text abilities.

Would certainly be best for those people using graphic-free browsers, too :)

By the way, as a corollary to this, I really wish that screened comments were NOT automatically unscreened when the original poster replied to them.

The whole point of leaving a screened comment is that you and/or the original poster want it to be (and usually to remain) private. The original poster should be able to reply without breaking that confidence or being forced to move the discussion to pm or email.

Even momentary unscreening (before someone has time to rescreen a comment) can result in it being shown to an onlooker who clicks at just the right time.

I frankly think a screened comment should only be unscreened if both parties approve it as such.

There was a suggestion about that a couple years ago. I see it's past the three-year limit; you're welcome to resubmit (referencing and linking to the previous suggestion and addressing the issues brought up in comments). http://community.livejournal.com/suggestions/547967.html

I disagree, in that to me, the whole point (and intention) of screened comments is a way to combat spam/flames and other similar types of comments. It's a comment moderation queue. Yes, a lot of people choose to use it to pass on private information, but that's not how the system is designed. (Polls and the private messaging system are designed to handle private information.) So it makes sense that if you reply to something, ie approve it, that it becomes public.

Edit: to be clear, I'm not saying this system couldn't be improved by that change. I'm just saying that the way it works makes sense in that context, and it's a reasonable way for it to work.

Some already do something similar.
I use smooth sailing, which provides a class "commentHeaderScreened"

But I fully support the suggestion of "adding more classes to all styles where ever possible"!
