What does Blackberry support technically mean, though? What needs to be changed or implemented to make this happen?

I agree with this question-I have very few problems using LJ using Opera Mini on my Sony Ericsson w810i mobile (cellphone in American IIRC). And that's a simple java app that should work anywhere, including a blackberry.

So what more does LJ need to do?

lj mobile created specific interfaces for palm and windows mobile users that are separate applications.

the lj mobile app makes it easier to post to lj on the go that opening lj up as an html page on a small screen device or having to remember the email/text prompts for formatting.

given the prices of palm and windows mobile devices when compared to those of the usually much less expensive blackberry, it makes sense to create the same type of app for blackberry.

Really? Where? The only thing I'm aware of is livejournal.com/mobile, which is just a webpage.

While I'm all for LJ making it easier to post using a wide variety of mobile devices, I don't know that there are enough people with one *specific* mobile device to make it worth creating LJ "just for blackberry users," "just for iphone users", etc. Are the standards for small-screen devices farther apart than the standards used to create webpages browsed in Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari, and other similar larger-screen devices ?

I'm piping in with "just sidekick users." If it's cool enough for Paris Hilton and Veronica Mars, it's cool enough for LJ. ;)

facebook did it and they have been enjoying a huge success with it.

Agreed. When I try to long in using mine it would keep saying I couldn't long in.
The problem with moblie post is that it will send my post in clips rather than a whole thing. Which gets annoying because I always have to go back and fix it later and make it one post instead of 4 or 5.

Draw backs would prolly be it might be alot fo work for you guys as far as coding goes.

Why do the work when you can exploit the free software community to do LiveJournal's work for free ( ... )
