Short, concise description of the ideaPaid users are now permitted to buy 100 userpics, billed annually. Permit us to buy additional increments of 100. During subscription reductions, allow us to review all active and inactive icons, and choose for ourselves which will be active at any given time

I support this completely. I'd love to be able to buy more user pics, and know of lots of people who would also do so.

It's a great idea. As you say it gives LJ more money; it keeps their customers happy.

I couldn't imagine having more than a dozen... how confusing... unless your viewing it as an art gallery. :)

I like how LJ has it currently set up, since I've been a paid member for a couple years now, mine has grown to 112, "Currently uploaded: 71 out of 112." Every few months of paid time you have, it increases.

Then again, I don't have any issues with the need for more, I sometimes go through and delete old ones I don't like/use anymore to make room for more. :) I guess it might be nice to buy another 100 spaces, but if it were to increase too much then overall it could start slowing down the servers a bit...
If each paid user bought it, I'd estimate theres half a million paid users, x 200 icons, thats 100million icons x 30 kb (we'll estimate the average size is this) Thats approx 6 mb per person of icons... so 3 million mb, or 2,929 gigabytes (2.9 terrabytes) worth of icons... Thats a hell of a lot. XD heh

I don't know how many paid users there are, or what percentage they are of all LJ users.

I think I know that only a certain proportion (how many?) of paid users currently buy the extra 100 pics; and an even smaller proportion of those would want to purchase a second or third hundred.

There may not be that many people, as a proportion of all of LJ, paid and unpaid, who would use this option. But the people who want it, want it very much and are willing to pay for it. And as long as there are enough of them in raw numbers (rather than proportionate to all LJ users, paid and free) to make this worthwhile and profitable, I hope the LJ programmers will go ahead with this. :)

:) Well after the merge with Six Apart, I'm sure they have enough resources to accommodate it... And coding wise, wouldn't be any harder than adding all the new trinkets they add on a month to month basis... I guess we'll see ;) After all, there are about 12.5 million total Livejournal users already, Though I can't say how many I'd guess are paid users, or even how many of the percentage of paid users actually have 100 icons (though, there probably are quite a handful still) The estimate of 500k users was just to prove how much space icons can take up, and how much space it can quickly fill up. :D

Yes, yes, more user pics for those who want them and are willing to pay for them. I fully support the idea. If the fee pays for the cost of storage plus a little profit for LJ, then I see no reason not to let the LJ consumer buy more. This is especially true if the LJ user is willing to give up other space consuming features such as voice mail and the gallery in exchange for more user pic space.

There seems to be plenty of server space for all those ads you've got going on the basic accounts, so seems like there would be room for more user pics as well.

LJ, what say you?
