I was just going to make a similer suggestion myself, since I could never see myself using any of the features that come with a paid account EXCEPT the userpics, and I can't really justify getting a paid account just for that.

However, if bandwidth and serverload is an issue, why not implement a system that allows us to use our own webspace to upload userpics?

yeah I agree. It annoys me that they won't consider doing this. If LJ wasn't more popular I'd switch over to greatest journal for good.
