Share Buttons to spread the love.

Short, concise description of the idea
Why doesn't an established brand like LJ have "share to LJ" buttons out there like G+, Tumblr, Facebook...?

I probably would never use it, but I see this as being a pretty handy idea for people who keep public LJs, so yes!

They exist. A few of my friends have them on their websites.

They're just generally not used.

Where would you want to find these buttons? Usually when there are "hey share this" buttons on websites, their presence is controlled by the owner of those websites. How do you propose that LiveJournal go about convincing websites to include "share to LJ" buttons?

You are missing the point about this suggestion. It is to make people who aren't on LJ think about joining LJ. If LJ had a marketing department, they could talk to other sites about adding a simple little button like Facebook and Tumblr do. Spreading the word about LJ is how you keep it alive.

No it isn't. It's called marketing and public relations. LJ is a business, and as a business they need to promote their services to get new members. They have an identifiable logo. They have a product, and they need to do something to make people aware of it.
