I wished for this for years!

I think it could be made a separate type of notification, but make Inbox mandatory, as it is for private messages. That way, people could select different email and IM preferences for support answers than for private messages. Sure, there might be some people who would prefer email-only, but I'd imagine they would be few, and support requests are ideally a rare event as well, so the negative reaction would be outweighed by the value of guaranteed delivery.

Those are just details, though. This would be a huge improvement in any form.

For a certain value of guaranteed, sure ;) I know this suggestions looks less useful in light of last weeks inbox delivery failure but I think the increasing rate of e-mail snafus makes this a necessary addition.

there's nothing on the Submit Support Request page that indicates replies would even be sent to e-mail (or I'm blind or it's on the "Success!"-page). as someone who doesn't use e-mail notifications (much), I'd actually expect responses to be sent to my inbox. I mean, for me it feels like an "at least Inbox! (and maybe e-mail)"-thing and not the other way round. especially because the form doesn't ask for an e-mail address.

and then there are probably people who use throwaway e-mail addresses to make accounts / addresses they never/rarely check, too? - but they certainly use LJ often, because why would they be posting a request if they weren't.

so, yes! :D \o/

A couple of years ago I'd have said that the majority of people were paying attention to the e-mail accounts connected to their journals, but with the increasing prevalence of identity accounts I really don't know if that's the case anymore.

Yes, please! I think Support notifs would be rare enough that compulsory Inbox messages wouldn't be too much of a burden. And maybe users could also opt to receive them by the various other methods as well.
