Yes. I doubt it would be used that much, but it makes LJ lead by the good "you own your data" example.

It doesn't actually have to be a desktop application. Given the potential size of the data, it could just be part of the site that started the process, and sent you a link (by email) of the archived data that would be valid for a few days.

Good idea, I suggested it three years ago and nothing has happened though.
