Posts in "News" should not override the journal style -- they should adopt whatever formatting and layout conventions the post inherits from the friends-page style in which in which it is displayed.

Not that it made the entry difficult to read on my layout, but it sets a precedence for using the mark up to completely override other people's layouts - something that's been taboo on LJ for as long as I've used it.

Looked like a n00b mistake. Probably wasn't. :(

This a million times. I don't care that lj (news) staff doesn't care about lj conventions and think they can do whatever they like just because they can (and have "official" status) but overriding journal styles is a no-no and if lj staff doesn't know how to code a new fancy style for themselves which would not do this then they should ask one of us not-paid-to-do-that-but-we-do-it-anyway-in-fact-*we-pay-for-the-privilege* to make one for them.
