Title
Site modifier in lj user tag

Short, concise description of the idea
Include site modifiers in lj user tags.

Full description of the idea
When we type in username, it would be nice if we could call a username for a site that is non-LJ. For example, on Dreamwidth, while will produce a DW-icon-username, one can put down and get a LJ user instead of a ( Read more... )

I like this idea.

I don't want to be one of those "we should copy Dreamwidth" people...

Since I work with both sites (many of my friends moved to DW) I would be happy if LJ indeed copied useful stuff from DW (and vice versa).

Same here. So many of my friends have moved that it's getting a little annoying trying to keep track of TWO sites. DW has syndicated f-list reading coming up, and if that actually works as advertised (and LJ doesn't implement something similar), I think that would be it for me.

I'm not exactly sure what that is, but if it's a good idea why not suggest it here?

Biggest reason is that I'd been trying the go-it-myself route (and failing). ^_^ Second reason is that I didn't want to spam suggestions when I wrote this one, and I forgot about doing it. I should write it up.

If it's easily doable, sure.

As long as you're adding a new tag "lj name" and not replacing the current tag "lj user".

I doubt I'd use the new feature, but I'd definitely be upset if "lj user" stopped working.

It can be done without breaking the current usage. exampleusername would keep referring to exampleusername as it does, and exampleusername would substitute the right URLs for example.com. (This, IIRC, is how it works on Dreamwidth.)

I assumed that specifying "lj name" in this instance was the result of a collision between our "lj user" and Dreamwidth's "user name", and that if implemented, it would probably be for "lj user".
