Miz Deliverance is in the kitchen, and has apparently been there for quite some time. Most every available surface has something set on it to cool -- apple pie, scones with cream and jam, chocolate chip cookies, and other sweets -- and on the stove is a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup, nearly ready, and water heating for tea ( Read more... )

Alcuin walks into the kitchen with a soft smile, and immediately stops when he sees all the cooking that's been done, smile fading into surprise. It's been so long since he's seen anyone else doing more than just an occasional spree of baking that he's nearly forgotten it isn't actually his own private kitchen. He blushes softly, not sure what to do with himself now.

"Certainly. It's not much different from cooking. You choose things for what they do as much as how they taste, but other than that . . ."

"Like what?" Alcuin listened attentively, an apt pupil.

"Well, for starters aloe's good for preventing fire and accidents -- keep it near to prevent them when you're working, and if something happens anyway it's good for healing. Basil's good for protection, and so's rosemary. Chamomile tea's good for calm, and anise to preserve youth. Anise is also good for headaches and lung troubles. Caraway, for lust and fidelity -- used in wedding cakes, mostly, but that's not the only use, of course. Lavender for happiness and harmony. Wintergreen takes jinxes off. Cinnamon, for health and vigor -- and libido. Onions promote the libido, too. A lot comes down to libido, in the end. Hmm. Valerian's good for purification but you have to be careful with it, 'cause it's a diuretic. Marjoram'll help with toothache. Wintergreen's good for women during their time; stops them hurting too much. There's a lot."

Alcuin nods obediently. "I shall remember." And he will, too.

"I'm sure you will. Is there anything in particular you're interested in?"

Alcuin shook his head slightly. "Healing and calming, primarily. I don't really need anything for libido." He blushes at that, a soft pink tinge making his face even prettier.

She laughs softly. "Well, you never know if someone else might. But the rest is enough to keep you busy for a long time, anyway."

Alcuin smiled back at her, happy. "Thank you."
