More like 9 month and 3 weeks. This year I am trying to plan way early to avoid some of the frustration.

You need to be more Williamly in your approach. Send out three emails, if you don't get a confirmation by x date, tough luck.

I'd like to go. I'd prefer not to drive though, because my car is getting up there. If there's a car that comes back closer to 6:00pm than 10:00pm, I'd like to be in that car. I think 8am until 10pm would tax my attention span.

And, for what it's worth, I really like the approach you are taking this year: one date and lots of notice. I'm not very good at making decisions like "Which weekend would you prefer?" and I will put that off more than any other type of task. Silly, I know, but that's how my brain works.
