Ouch. I love the metaphors - they were excellent. This, especially: The rust shows, tarnishing their legend irreversibly. Powerful stuff. The real killer is your last line. So very unfortunately true.

It might not have been a happy fic, but it was brilliantly written.

I like it. Doesn't have to be unhappy, you're just reading it that way. ^^ Once they've survived, it will go on from there. ^^

Does, however, reflect the rust and corrosion in the show. Argh. -_- Sometimes we have to write those just to get them out. You've done that nicely poetically.
