what do other people know?

This is a media darling shitpost. I have a lot of feels. Roshi tried the new VR headset. She'd tell the story better, but here's the abridged version: she knows this crew that makes apps and shit (tech bros mecca to Austin now; it's a thing), and they have access to one, and she being an in-demand artist knows these people, so she's working with ( Read more... )

Fuck, even before you started talking about Doom, this was reminding me of the brief experiences I had of playing the Doom game that came out in the early 2000s.
From memory, it was really claustrophobic and you couldn't hold a big gun and use a torch at the same time.
Really good tension with the soundtrack too.
That game in VR would be hard core!

Only being able to hold 1 BFG at a time!! The old days!! Kids today just don't appreciate the size and holding limitations. They just don't know.

If I could get a VR Skyrim, I think I'd surely lose my job at one point and probably all relationships with all the people in my life.

But you would create relationships in the game. It'd be an online, interactive experience between yourself, the game, and the other players online.

And even more so that it is now, or even WOW, because you'd be IN the fucking game as opposed to removed from it by like 12 inches or however far away you sit from the monitor/tv.

Like, that's the shit that gets me. It's not "real", it's VR, but everything you're feeling is real, so how is it NOT real?

Can't speak for your job tho. That's on you ;)

I wish I had enough disposable income to just throw away on a $500 piece of tech! It's gonna be obsolete in like 6 months. Can't wait till they mass produce that shit and it's only like $300 or free with your purchase of a PS5 because I would def get down on that shit.

HEY. So Alyssia (Owen's housemate) works for a startup who are doing something REALLY FUCKING AWESOME:

They are creating plays you would go watch in the theatre EXCEPT it's VR. So you can choose to interact with the play as little or as much as you like.

Also I get to watch so much VR stuff thanks to her, the best one was when you're strapped in a wheelchair being wheeled through a psychiatric hospital and it was TERRIFYING OMG. SOOOO TERRIFYING. I freaked the fuck out.

Any way I can fucks with it while I'm there? Haha I'm trying to get with Roshi and these dudes so I can try it on next week or something. I want to make sure it doesn't make me sick (it probably will) but I want to see it firsthand. It's like, eating at me. I must try it.

Ahh man, she is moving out literally next week so we won't be able to play with that cool stuff, BUT as Owen is a technology reporter he gets sent random shit all the time and recently McDs Sweden sent him this super cheap VR headset that costs £2 to create and will be going in their happy meals.

We played with it for a bit and he wrote his article and now it sits in his room, you can download Google Cardboard and I will bring it along for playing with ?? :)

That's awful about your friend running into a wall & hurting herself! Oshiet. I've run away from the TV playing Resident Evil games, too. I never even really liked playing without there being someone else in the room... probably just so that I would NOT get too emerged in the game! I imagine they're going to have to put some serious warnings on some games. Dragon flying though... fun!
