His Dark Materials ficlet for expositionary

There really isn't a His Dark Materials fandom as such, is there? In terms of fanfic, anyway - the only community I could find on LJ was decidedly dead. This strikes me as a great tragedy, especially after I got such a kick out of writing this.

Thank you muchly for this. I'm currently drowning in homework and it made me very happy and slightly less DOOM DOOM AND DEATH.

They're all lovely, but I adore the imagery in that last one -- it's one of the most powerful scenes of canon for me, the one that's really glued itself into my mind, and you've made it that much better.

I don't know whether you're still reading comments on your older fics, but (after reading your recent Will Parry fic) I've just belatedly discovered--and adored--this one. I think it must be incredibly difficult to write from Asriel's point of view--in the novels, we see him so much from the outside as this sort of inscrutable, powerful figure. But you make this pov seem so easy and natural, and incredibly touching. The connection between the poisoned Tokay and Marisa Coulter is perfect, and (yes) your ending brings up all the shattering feelings of that scene in canon.
