Differences - Chapter 2

Capa slept with Cassie that night, but that was all they did: sleep.  Or at least Cassie managed to.  The second her eyes closed, she was gone, comforted by Capa's presence, but Capa lay awake for hours.  Every noise irked him--the sounds of the ship, the whistle the air made going in and out of Cassie's nose, and the creaking of the bed through the wall of Mace's room next door.

Capa rose, gently extracting his arm from beneath Cassie and deciding he would stop the creaking.

The moment he stepped across the threshold of Mace's room, and his body cast a shadow in the dim light of a lamp in the corner, Mace said defensively, "Who's there?"  Capa didn't answer, but moved to the side of Mace's bed.

Mace gasped and exhaled with a laugh when he realized it was Capa.  "Oh," he said.  "It's you."

Capa smiled slightly and without his eyes.  "Your bed keeps creaking."

"What?"

"I can hear it through the wall."

"Yeah.  I can't sleep."

"Well stop turning."  And Capa moved to leave.

"Wait."

Capa stopped, but didn't turn.

Mace said, "Did you and Cassie...you know?"

"No."

"Why not?"

"We didn't feel like it.  Can I go now?"

"No."  Mace stood, put a hand on Capa's shoulder, and let it slide down his back.  "Would it really be so bad?" he nearly whispered.

"I don't know, Mace," Capa whispered back.  "And that's what I'm afraid of."

"I'll be gentle."

"You won't."  Capa shook Mace's hand away.

"How do you know?  You've never made love to me."

"It's not love we'd be making."

"True.  But I'd be gentle nonetheless."

Capa turned and took a step toward Mace.  "Do you promise?"

Mace nodded.  Then he cupped Capa's face and pulled it toward his own.  Their lips barely touched.  He wanted to shove Capa onto his bed, but he fought the urge.  Capa was getting comfortable, and he leaned into the kiss and placed his hands on Mace's hips.  Mace sucked in his breath at the touch and dropped his head into the crook of Capa's neck.

"Mace?"  Capa slid his hands up Mace's back, and Mace sucked in again, this time as blood rushed to his groin and sent it throbbing.  "Mace, I'm not doing anything."

"Oh, Capa," said Mace.  "You are."  He pulled back to remove Capa's shirt.  Capa was becoming visibly nervous, so Mace removed his own shirt next.

When he moved to undo Capa's pants, Capa made a strangled noise and said, "Not yet."  So Mace kissed Capa and gently guided him to the bed, and Capa lay down across it.  Mace propped himself up on his elbows above him, placing his lips then tongue on his chest and moving it downward.  Capa was breathing harder now, and Mace soon felt an erection poking his thigh.  Mace moved his face back to Capa's and looked into his eyes; he moved his fingers to the drawstring at Capa's waist.  "Now?" he said.  Capa nodded.  Mace removed the pants, and then Capa undid Mace's and pulled them off, his trembling fingers showing eagerness rather than fear.

Mace said, "I don't have any lube or anything else we could--"

"Good," said Capa.  "I don't want to do that anyway."  And then, averting his eyes, he said, "Could we switch positions?"

Mace gritted his teeth, not wanting to lose control, but nodded.  He got up, Capa got up, and then Mace lay back down, allowing Capa to position his mouth near Mace's arousal.  When he licked its tip, Mace grasped the top of the headboard behind him and struggled to keep his pelvis still.  But when Capa took the whole of the erection in his mouth, Mace couldn't help bucking.  Capa gagged, but didn't pull away.

"I'm sorry," said Mace.  Capa flicked his hand as if to dismiss the apology, and then began moving his mouth up and down on Mace's arousal.  Mace moaned and leaned his head against the headboard, his eyes rolling back in his head and his eyelids fluttering.  When he came, his hips jolted forward and remained there until the orgasm was over.  He closed his eyes for a few seconds too long.

"Mace," said Capa, irritated.

"Oh.  Right."

The two again got up from the small bed, and Capa lay down.  Mace straddled Capa's thighs and wrapped his fingers about his erection.  He had been close already, so it took but a few up and down motions of Mace's hand before Capa was jerking and moaning, "Mace...Mace..."  When he was done, Mace rolled off of him and lay beside him, resting his palm on the wall to keep from falling off the skinny bed.

"Are you going to leave?" Mace asked.

Capa took a deep breath.  "I don't want to."  Then he turned and wrapped an arm about Mace's torso, nuzzling his nose near Mace's ear.

Mace laughed.  "Good.  Because I didn't want you to either."
