I liked that Merlin was such an idiot that even Arthur noticed. Using magic in front of the court! I'm glad he put Merlin in the stocks for a while, just to make sure he understood the gravity of the situation.

Arthur had always thought of love as something painful and terrible. The love his father had for his mother. The love that killed thousands of suspected sorcerers. It never seemed like something to strive for. Merlin's love was no less terrible. It spanned the kingdom, perhaps the whole world, and put it at Arthur's feet.

This needs some angsty and character-piecey exploration because it's so true!

OH HEY I SEE YOU WERE AHEAD OF ME.

i *still* think you should expand this, i'd love to see more of this universe, more of the myriad ways in which merlin's magical growth continues to twine around arthur (such a beautiful, beautiful analogy, it will have me grinning all day). Both before the time of the fic, and after.

I might expand it at some point, after Big Bang and everything. It's more of a concept piece anyway, throwing some possibilities out there and see what sticks ;D
