Autumnal layering

Aug 31, 2011 16:56

Today is decidedly autumnal up in Scotland and I'm enjoying being able to layer again without over-heating (well, okay, almost without over-heating, I was a tad toasty by the time I'd marched to the post office and back). I'm wearing ( Read more... )

That sounds lovely.

It's not quite that autumnal here yet, but I'm looking forward to being able to wear boots and tights and shawls and more than the very small number of summer-appropriate cardigans I appear to own (I'm sure I had more fine-knit cotton cardis once upon a time, but at the moment I just have chunkyish summer cardis and am very bored of them).

I biked to work today in my first day of school clothes (more on that later). And, thanks to the 1.5 miles uphill at the end, I am sweaaaaaaaty. Even though it's only about 60deg F. Which is why I am in my office in my underwear. With the door shut and locked, I hasten to note.

Post on commuter and school clothes to come.

[ETA: the point of that is... I am experiencing an autumn/not autumn body temp experience much like a Scottish day in September, only not in September. Also, I feel bedraggled.]

Yes, even when it's not that warm here it's still quite muggy.

I did experiment with beige fishnets today. I have now remembered why people with chubby thighs shouldn't wear fishnets.

To be fair, it's 15 degrees here and when I said I was a tad toasty by the time I got home, I wasn't kidding - I would probably have been plenty warm enough without the jacket, or at least without the cardy. I'm slightly bemused by the people who are back in winter coats already! I wore thin tights yesterday and my legs were too hot by the time I'd walked for 5 mins.

OOOOOHHHH! So pretty sounding! So pretty! It's like you're a Scottish [ETA Scottish-Located. My bad!] Temperance Brennan, without the totally alienating attitude she has. I would love to see a photo of this outfit.

For once, I think it looks as cute as it sounds. I shall pose in the hallway & get the Boy to take a photo just for you :)

Thanks :) The cardy is less grey than it looks on my screen but other than that, the colours came out pretty well.

Also, you will note I am wearing pink. This is all your fault, a few years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of buying a pink silk scarf! ;)

Great outfit. I love your boots.

We're still having summer weather here, and will for a good month and a half at least . And I rarely wear blazers... or boots...

When the weather turns cooler, I like wearing sweaters. But I like wearing my sandals and would rather wear them all year round if I could. We have so little time to wear anything warm that I don't have much.

I love my Donnatella travel raincoat so much I even wear it at home when it rains, which it does from time to time.

Thanks :)

A good comfy pair of sandals are great but I'm a boot girl at heart - I'm generally comfier in socks and I think my legs look better in boots. Also, I have nightmare feet and it's much easier to get comfy boots than shoes or sandals.

The raincoat sounds wonderful. I keep thinking I should buy a stylish raincoat rather than living in my walking jacket when the weather is bad, but I've only seen showerproof ones and when it's wet over here, it's really wet!

I have no idea how your rainstorms compare to ours (sometimes it just pours here--it's like the sky opens up); besides, I haven't tested this in a big storm yet because I bought it at the end of last season heavily discounted, but the pack-cloth is heavy-duty and it has a great hood. Supposedly I won't need an umbrella, which would be marvelous, since I hate travel umbrellas. Plus it reverses from black to this rich warm bronze color that for some reason is really flattering to my coloring. It's made me wonder if I need to rethink all of my wardrobe color choices. The shape takes off twenty pounds at least, but despite that you can layer under it. It's the most stylish thing I own at the moment ( ... )

I suspect it is not so much the weather that varies as the jackets (we do not get tropical storm style rain as a general rule though). In the UK, 'stylish' coats are only generally weatherproof if you can afford something very expensive. If you want something properly waterproof that doesn't cost loads, you are much better off with a hiking jacket. Most people (I suspect) buy showerproof coats and use umbrellas (I leave these everywhere and it is usually too windy for them here anyway) or don't spend that much time walking in the rain ( ... )
