[Well, today begins the first day of the Major's new job as a butcher. Having been a career military man, having a job outside of leading his troops into battle. Still. Being one type of butcher should, hopefully, easily carry over to the other.

[So a boy walks into a butcher's shop and heads straight up the counter.]

I'd like an eye, please.

[Without missing a beat.]

[Finally, someone who doesn't inconvene him with stupid questions. He shrugs.]

Hog, sheep. Doesn't matter.

[Give him a few minutes to check in the back, and in a little bit he'll come back with an eye wrapped in a paper towel, putting it on the counter.]

Hog. I assume one is fine, from what you asked.

[He nods--] Thanks.

[--and drags it closer, unwrapping it partially. He looks at the round, gray orb which looks back, turns it over to study it further, then re-wraps it. He's about to leave the counter with it as though he's never heard of paying for things...]

[The Major taps the counter heavily with one of his fingers, hoping to get the boys attention.]

I think a quarter, or so, should suffice as payment.

[Don't think he didn't notice you looking at it. What an interesting boy you seem to be, Slugger.]

[What an interesting face you seem to have, Mr. Butcher.]

I don't use money. What else do you want for it?

My word that things in this shop won't go missing unexplained...

[His shadowy gaze jumps to a large cleaver set on a chopping block behind the butcher.]

[The Major's eyes follow as well. And he smiles.]

And what if I were not to mind if some of these things went missing?

[strike_you_out]

[Slugger thinks for a moment. It would be all too easy for him to simply 'go missing' and not get caught. But he hasn't seen you before and you seem like a guy whose head might be fun to get into.]

Is money important to you?
