What d'you MEAN the roads aren't safe?

You know, I'm not normally a huge "omgz follow teh laws or die" person, but they are there for a reason. Traffic laws included.

Originally when I saw this thread in wtf_inc I thought it wouldn't go anywhere. Maybe a few people saying, "OH I saw some people talking on a cell phone ( Read more... )

I once passed a man on a busy suburban highway reading while driving.

I noticed he was reading a drivers' manual. Not the book that comes with the car when you buy it, but a manual that you get when you take a drivers' ed class. Apparently, this man couldn't wait to get on the roads, so he has one hand on the wheel, and the other hand's holding open the drivers' manual. I presume he was on the page where it tells you how to switch lanes safely.

Fortunately, my stop was just ahead, so I got myself off the road before this man caused an accident.

How in the world did you know the subject matter of the book he was reading?

If you're driving next to someone in traffic, it can be easy. During my morning commute, I once passed a woman who was reading a romance novel. I could see the cover in a single glance as she was holding it up above the steering wheel.

I've talked, listened to music, and cuddled while driving.

I don't see how you could physically have sex while driving. I just can't. How could you see the road? Was your partner a dwarf?

Isn't the person who claimed to have done it a girl though? Might just be confused.

Um, I've done this. She straddled me, and I looked over her shoulder. I wasn't able to participate much, but the semi-trucks sure got a fun show.

I seriously hate people like that so much. A car isn't your personal toy, it's a machine that has an incredible capacity to kill several people in a very violent way. You're supposed to be responsible while driving, not just for your own life, but for the many people you could potentially murder while being a selfish prick. Oh sorry officer, I didn't see the girl step out in the crosswalk, I was editing a photo on my tablet here! Silly me!

I agree. People need to understand that everyone shares the same roads and acting like a douche on them doesn't just effect one person.

The only thing I've ever done while driving is answer my phone and say 'Driving. Can't talk. later."

Granted, I did once cross railroad tracks after the thing started to ding (the tracks in question have no guard-bar-thingie, so you can theoretically cross even right when the train is there), but it scared the shit outta me so much that I haven't dared to think about trying it again.
