time for a small batch of religion wank, all within the typically quiet walls of honestyisabitch. it all began when mumbalo_jack made this post enlightening we "multicultural leftist apologists" as to why all of islam, not just the extremists are teh ebil.

someone bothers to point out that that all religions have their nutters but to mumbalo_jack christianity isn't so bad because a few ( Read more... )

I have no idea why she in particular does not use capital letters, but it's a risky question to ask because those who don't use them tend to defend vigorously their right to look like idiots, as per the example linked below.

Also, that's super cool that you speak Arabic and Hebrew. ^_^

You know, I think the CIA is always looking for people with fluency in Middle Eastern languages! ^_~ Man, that would be so kick-ass. *trails off into daydream about being a secret agent*

Thanks, you now have "Secret Agent Man" (I have no idea if that's the title or just the line) stuck in my brain.

All major religions are susceptible to criticism. Islam might have its horrible points, but so do Christianity and Judaism.

I don't think anyone implied that Christianity et al haven't had their moments, in fact he specifically acknowledges that. His point is simply that while all religions have their "issues", Islam is particularly bad with regards to modern sensibilities about human rights and is not particularly open to change.

Do you always substitute ad hominems for an actual argument?

I haven't heard anything about your intelligence, but so far I'm underwhelmed.

Also:

I see liberal chicks praise Islam all the time, yet if Islam was the overwhelming force in our society, they would be subjugated like cattle.

Sadly, I'm going to have to agree with him on that one, removing the unnecessary "cattle" jab. I'm taking a class on Islam right now, and all the girls saying "OMG the Qur'an really moves me, it's so powerful!" are driving me nuts. Hi, are you actually reading the passages about Allah striking down the infidels with a rain of destruction and women submitting to their husbands and staying in their place? Is that really moving and powerful to you?

truthfully that's another bit of islam that got way warped over the years. the word hijab means literally the curtain that muhammad put up so his female family members could prostrate and pray without men gawking at their butts sticking up in the air.

so a lot of what was supposed to be for the protection of women became submissive practices, which is stupid in any case.

And the burka is normally used to protect ones face from the blowing sand, while travelling. (I learned that one from a friend who did a tour in Afghanistan)

Don't for get that modern medicine can thank Islam too for a few things. (if I can get my book back I can actually mention some stuff lol)

definitely, most of the loosefitting garments had practical purpose, and on the note of modern medicine, i really had a great time reading about imam jafar as-sadiq. he was quite the scientist, and made all sorts of physiological and asrtonomical observations far beyond his time.

not to mention that religion was one of the first influences that actually told people to bathe more than once a month and to wash your hands.

I wonder if he googled those passages because, I was trying to find a passage or two from the Koran and I found them on various white power sites, lol.

My search was totally had nothing to do with s_f, the husband and I play this "Where is this quote from" game and and the quote (actually verse) was in the mumbalo's post.
