Really Giant Doctor Who Fic Rec Post

Aug 15, 2008 05:25

I've been keeping a giant list of fics I liked, for the purposes of a) sharing the love, b) rereading them all in a few months when I've had time to forget them, and c) having somewhere besides timenchips_ot to turn to if I can't remember what that one story with the graffiti and the witty summary of the Doctor's eighth life was. I started adding to this list ( Read more... )

While the List is useful for times when one has nothing better to do than to read some not so bad and some terrible fan fiction, you have have not investigated enough. There are a couple of authors who write fan fiction on-line which is of superb quality, which you have not listed.

One complaint: Do you kow the ugliest word in the English language? It is "fanfic"! (on par with 'pics' and 'vids'). Does it really take so much time to type 'fan fiction'???

This is not the Internet's single, authoritative list of good fanfiction. It's a list of things I liked enough to make a note of and come back to later. The idea is that if someone with similar tastes but who has not read all these stories should find it, it would be helpful to that person. Clearly you are not that person, and if you consider this list to range from "not so bad" to "terrible," there's a good chance that I wouldn't like whichever authors you were thinking of. (In fact, I wonder why you kept reading if you didn't like the stuff I listed.) Either way, I'm sure I've missed plenty of good authors. I'm not claiming to have read the work of all, or even most, authors in the fandom. I'm just pointing out some favorites among the few whose work I've come across ( ... )

I am totally checking out some of these fics when I have a bit more time, but for now- sharing of glee.

I adore rosa_acicularis. She's fantastic, and all her fics are amazing. And Downtime by cryptile is my favorite "Christmas Invasion" fic. Ulysses is gorgeous, and both Twenty Lies told to Rose Tyler and First Hand Knowledge were quite fun reads :D

If I can rec back? orange_crushed has some terrific fic. The quiet life by marylane23 (http://community.livejournal.com/time_and_chips/1958680.html) is my absolute favorite Slow-path fic (Ten/Rose), and Worlds in conjunction by dark_aegis (http://community.livejournal.com/time_and_chips/2713839.html) is quite possibly my favorite Who fic ever. It's like a Moffat episode, except in fic. (Ten, Rose, Martha). I have more but those are the ones I have immediate access too. (Oh! and "A Heartwarming Story in Which The Doctor and Romana Make a Baby" is a must-read. It's on teaspoon.)

And I'm sending you an ( ... )

rosa_acicularis is on my list of people I want to be when I grow up, right along side the Doctor and the guy that made infinite view distance possible in Morrowind. (This is a list I intend to keep adding to, even when I'm fifty.)

You can definitely rec back. I have no idea how I overlooked orange_crushed. At some later point, I ought to add both some of her stuff and Worlds in Conjunction to this list. (You're right, it's good. I read it once a really long time ago, and now that you've reminded me, I'm off to read it again.)

I just read The Quiet Life and it was amazing. I'm not even a big fan of slow path fic in general, but that was really well done.

A Heartwarming Story in Which The Doctor and Romana Make a Baby sounds familiar, which could just as easily be because I've read it or because I've seen it, thought "nice title", and then moved on. I'll go look for it at some point in the near(ish) future.

Your link's busted, but it's cool, I can find it on Teaspoon.

And I like your reasoning in your email.
