"You didn't have to come," came the whispered voice of her husband. "The children need you right now."
"Nonsense," Iranda said, settling at his bedside. "Joshua and Ulrich have offered to watch the children for a few hours." She reached over and brushed his sweat matted hair off his forehead. "My poor husband," she whispered.
"Forgive me," he said, wincing. The injuries had been too severe following that last fight with Dead Wing [Dread's father] that it was unlikely for him to see the dawn of the new day.
"There's nothing to forgive, Aaron. I knew coming into this marriage that there'd always be the chance that," she said, her voice breaking. "Now, don't talk, rest." She swallowed a lump of emotion down.
