Ilona looked up at her guardian, curiosity etched onto her delicate features. "Uncle Joshua," she began softly. "Is it possible for the soul to be cleansed of evil?" she asked. That conversation she had with Sir Z'neth Arlan at that dinner had been weighing heavily on her mind and left her greatly confused.
Joshua slanted his gaze towards his young ward. "He's still going on about that?" he asked dryly. He simply couldn't understand Z'neth's obsession with good and evil - had he been a priest, then it would have made sense, but he was just a nobleman, a scientist. The soul was not something of his concern - and to bring that up as a topic at a dinner.. He honestly couldn't understand that youth.
Ilona paused a moment. "Yes, is there something wrong with it?" she asked, honestly curious at this point. It had been a fascinating conversation, even if it went a little over her head.
"For starters, it's not a dinner time conversation a proper gentleman has with a proper lady," Joshua began.
Ilona resisted the urge to roll her eyes at that. She wished her guardian would accept that she was able to understand topics such as what Z'neth had discussed with her. Besides, it was a better topic than listening to one of the other ladies at the table discuss the fabric of her newest dress... "Bar the inappropriateness of the conversation," she said, "is it possible?"
Joshua sighed, tilting his head back. "I don't know, Ilona. I honestly don't know."
