A family friend issued a challenge recently, and I thought I'd put it to you, people of LJ (paraphrased copy/pasted from her email):

I am issuing a new year's challenge to my word loving friends to develop a personal list of your ten most beautiful words. This project occurred to me while reading Late Nights on the Radio by Elizabeth Hay. Now in ( Read more... )

Raise, woo! I mean, it only comes out to like, $40/week take home, but STILL. Yay!

I can think of lots of words that I like, but I am having a hard time deciding if any of them really count as beautiful. (Case in point: fuckwit. Also, I think she's planning to make some sort of illustrated booklet out of the answers, so.)

Congratulations on the raise! Are you feeling sexy, a la the 100 ways? :p

That tree is stunningly symmetrical.

And one of my favorite German words is Schaumgummi (foam rubber).

hiya. I was poking around your entries, trying to get a feel for you to aid my book selection, and found this. I've always thought golden was such a harsh sounding word, especially given its meaning, both traditional and modern. I do love luminous as it sounds as beautiful as it implies by meaning. One of my favorites is suneos, which is Spanish for dreams. There was a boat moored near where I live named Suenos del Mar [dreams of the sea] and it stuck with me.

Ok, returning your lj to you now. ;-)
