Coldwood and cotehardiejournal

In SCA news:

Coldwood Opening of the Inne was FABULOUS, as always!  I stayed this time in a little nook between Dragonhammer and Mactores Romae, which was a riot and a half.  I set my cooking gear up in MR's kitchen space, and they fell in love with the Volcano.  And who wouldn't?  Being able to boil water in 2 minutes means that making breakfast ( ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, no. I do a X-mas in July celebration with my sister that weekend every year (in Syracuse), so Glenn Linn is "out" in perpetuity.

Well poo. See you at Pennsic then I guess. :)

Alas, but no! I won't be at Pennsic. I decided not to do it when it looked as if my dad and I were going to go to Spain. Though that trip's probably getting cancelled now, by the time I learned about it I already had work travel commitments scheduled. I'm not ready, in any case. Not enough garb, not enough gear. There's always next year! Will you be at GNEW?

You can use tablets with only two holes threaded and get warp faced tabby. So says Phiala: http://www.stringpage.com/tw/twohole.html

Oh, I know (and I've actually taken classes from Phiala in which she's covered this). However, I want to avoid using tablets on this project if at all possible--the yarn is so fine that I'm concerned they would cut through the wool far before the project was complete. A rigid heddle would put much less stress on it.

How fine is the yarn? I used 2/20's wool yarn: http://halcyonyarn.com/products/yarn/023.html for Grim's laurel trim with paper cards, and it didn't even think of fraying.

Oh, it's much finer than that--it's about the weight of the 60/2 guild silk. The last time I tried tabletweaving with it, I did *not* meet with success. :-(

Hah! I gently suggested to your AE that you were possibly a bit hurt that he hadn't replied, and he went very quiet for about three days, and then apparently emailed you :>.

You fail to understand re the bathroom. Mine will be the only operational one in the house. It's right next to my bedroom, separated only by a curtain - no door. The problem is not you using it, the problem is that the AE will also be using it. This is going to be ... interesting. To say the least.

He went very quiet for about three days? Interesting. He is so German. Sometimes he just doesn't THINK. Also, thank you. :-D

Oh, I totally understand the problem! But his phraseology made it sound as if you'd both be operating with a portajohn and a hose running off the roof until the construction was completed! Yes, a curtain isn't much, but it's better than the alternative. :-P

You do have my utmost sympathies as regards having to share when the time does roll around. Perhaps a door could be installed first?

Being able to boil water in 2 minutes means that making breakfast (and more importantly, coffee!) is a breeze!

Come to SA and we will show you this little invention called "an electric kettle". It will change your life.

(Don't hit me!)

Also, we have two whole loos just ten minutes drive down the road.

"Come to SA and we will show you this little invention called "an electric kettle". It will change your life."

Oh, I know those. They're best for using in a house, where there is actual electricity. :-P (Don't hit me!)

I can just see myself e-mailing the Adamastor list now: "Greetings Adamastorrans! I'm coming back to SA! I am eagerly hoping there will be folks who would like to spend time showing me more of the sights and also let me use their bathroom." :-P

Also, I didn't think about the fact that you wouldn't know this--Coldwood is an event at a very primitive camping site. There's electricity about 1/4 mile away inside the owner's home. The rest of us are on our own! :-) The volcano runs off propane but is about 10x larger and more powerful than the average flimsy propane camp stove.

I should have guesses, though, silly me.

Also, I was overcome with my ongoing amusement at the idea of boiling water for coffee on the stove top, which seems to be The American Way :D
