Chicago Transit Authority maintains a pretty active Flickr account, filled with all sorts of behind the scenes images, and a large selection of historical photos. I was browsing its albums when I discovered a small set of photos taken back 1938, when Shirley Temple (yes, the child star Shirley Temple) got a special tour of Chicago's 'L' system.

This morning, I saw All About Them (À trois on y va in the original French), which was screened as part of the 51st annual Chicago International Film Festival. When you start watching a documentary, there are certain things you expect. Voiceovers. Explanations to provide context. Interviews to give more background and perspectives. You expect the film to follow the filmmaker, or certain individuals that essentially become the movie's main characters. Minus the acting part.

Back in November, I saw a screening of Empire of Passion at the Siskel Film Center. Based on the description, I got the impression that it was going to be a romance with thriller elements, a story of how love can drive people to self-destruction.
