Thoughts on Twitter turmoil, straight from my Livejournal

Say what one will about Myspace, Friendster, or even Xanga, but they never tried to become profitable by getting rid of and driving away the very people who kept them up and running.

Or, to put it in the way Russian-speakers would appreciate it, надо же умудриться так просрать.

Seriously - это надо умудрится )

"Which Mastodon, who has more in common with actual AIM chatrooms, in that your audience is limited to people in a particular room, is not."

I do not understand this sentence. I currently follow 278 people, of which 24 are on the same server as me. There is no difference in how I see posts from my host and other hosts. How am I limited to people in a particular "room"?

The chatrooms are Mastodon servers in this metaphor - but I will admit that my understanding of Mastodon's structure is cursory, so maybe it's not the best metaphor. *shrugs*

Yes, my point is that you're not restricted to your own server. You can follow people across any server you like.
