I am in desperate need of food and sleep (optimally in that order), but I have succeeded at NaNo! Huzzah, huzzah! Characters who weren't supposed to be killed got killed! Characters who were supposed to die talked their way out of their untimely demise! I may have broken my priest narrator a bit, and thrown another narrator out of a zeppelin! So ( Read more... )

What system, has she said? Cause I know a LOT about tabletop rp, but most of it is either old systems or shit I don't even want to think about any more because it's a VILE system (Shadowrun, I am looking at YOU.)

And add to that, if you met her at a writer's group, I'm gonna guess there's a degree of homebrew involved here (this is GOOD, especially if you come back with "She says it's D&D 3.5").

Oh wow, there was a moment where she got excited about it and started talking really fast and I was just like :D? HOWEVER! I think she said something about using the third system because they all thought the fourth was rubbish? Um. But apparently I'm not going to be the only tragic n00b in the mix, so we can get it explained to us en masse next week! *g* (Although I suspect I'll still be zooming back to you guys with crazy questions soon enough...!)

Oh boy. Okay, she's talking D&D, and she's PROBABLY talking 3.5, which is the most common version, and that is a system that can totally be set up (in fact, it's designed to be, but in the hands of a good GM doesn't have to be) a TPK, or total party kill because it's often run as GM vs. players.

So go try it out, see how you like it, and always bear in mind, the system may be crap but the practise is not. (I personally hate 3.5, but I haven't liked D&D since Advanced, which was technically 2nd edition, and I didn't like that much anyway. I got a lot happier when we got into freeform - dice is not my thing and never has been.)

Good luck, I hope it's fun, and I hope I haven't made it sound like "DOOM. DOOM. POINTY DOOM."

I told her a gaming buddy had said I should ask what system they were using, and she said White Wolf with a few home rules and then asked if I wanted to bring you along! *g* Which would be cool, if a bit geographically tricky...!

Thanks for this info! I'm excited about this and shall keep you guys posted! :D

Thank you! Man, I coaxed our entire writers' group into playing along and only managed to drag one other gal over the finish line with me... This was a frikkin' tough year!
