I remember back in 1993 (was it then) when I first started using a program with a spellchecker, I had some students work I was going through and I put into the computer (it was one of those old Mac Classics, that they now seal up and turn into Maquariums). Anyway the student had written Prick-Teaser and I was trying to work out if it should be hyphenated or not (of course both are acceptable) and also was probably trying to add new and important terms to my computer... anyway, the alternative spelling for prickteaser was bricklayer... I wonder if it still is?
Sorry I didnt mean to say that I was putting their work into a computer (how tedious would that be). I meant that I was using it to check spellings to come up with funny alternatives mostly.
Oh I can sort of answer this. The university was quite nice that last conference I was therefore about 3/4 years ago. I remember it have quite a nice area in the downtown - a bit like Whyte but more cafes than bars. *wave* Hi, hope you don't mind a lurk joining in
Aw, I definitely don't mind! And thanks very much for the info... It's intimidating business sending out applications to cities you can't remember or haven't been to, knowing you might be working there for the next few years at least!
I'm finally (finally!) going to be working! \o/ I need a law firm to pick me up as an articling student for a year and then, optimally, I'd start working as a lawyer there once I pass the Bar next year.
Dragon Boats and culture and criminal tendencies, oh my! That actually sounds really neat. *g* (AHA! I've been to Fort Whoop Up! Trust me to recall that name from my childhood travels around the country in the back of our family van!) I've been checking out their website and I definitely like the size of the place. Edmonton's still a little too big for me to really feel comfortable, but I'm finding that a lot of the rural law offices don't have the client base to justify hiring an articling student.
Thanks so much for all this! :-D This is neat stuff to know!

I hear you on the blank future. It's a little bit freaky, isn't it?

It is! Equal parts freaky and liberating. I'm used to working without a 'plan b', but lacking a 'plan a' is certainly something new.
