Hmm... Does anyone on my flist have any thoughts about living in Lethbridge? wordsleadmeon? I've been through there a couple time but only when I was little, so I wasn't exactly assessing it for livability

Strangey, what are you planning on doing there? I know, kick me, I'm the worst Livejournal friend EVER, and I do promise to go back and read every entry this weekend, when I am having an entire Sunday and Monday off, but yes, I confess I'm not too sure of the reason for the move. I always think it gives it a context. Is it Uni? or Work? Fun? Or because someone else is going?
I just had a good look at it on Wikipedia and it does look really nice... which is a very lame way of discussing the landscape of acceptability that we share and is in no way specific. BUT let me tell you five great things that make Lethbridge worthy:
1. They have the first affiliated Tribal College in Canada (affiliated under the TC of North America, I mean) and we (my Institute) have a relationship with them! Red Crow Community College, which I read is on the Kainai Nation Reserve. You might know Hate Woman from that Tribe... woohoo... she was an outlaw, no wonder spellcheck wants to turn Lethbridge into Lawbreaker. She fought the law and, clearly, she won!
2. Taco Time Canada was based in the city before they moved. They moved!!!! That HAS to be a good thing.
3. They have a Dragon Boat Festival in July!! And a Carnevale di Masque in January.
4.To add to their criminal tendencies, they had a fort that was basically an illegal one that did all sorts of dodgy things... gotta love that. Plus... it's actually called Fort Whoop Up. Yeah.
5.The city produces truly famous people - like Conrad Bain, you know, the dad from Diffrent Strokes. Not to mention Gavin Crawford, who I slightly love.
It does have some stuff about the 'last battle between the Cree and the Blackfoot (Siksika) First Nations', which... I dunno, it seems a bit strange to say 'last' when they are still around. If it's anything like my nation, I am guessing there'll be a few more battles before all is said and done.
I'm finally (finally!) going to be working! \o/ I need a law firm to pick me up as an articling student for a year and then, optimally, I'd start working as a lawyer there once I pass the Bar next year.
Dragon Boats and culture and criminal tendencies, oh my! That actually sounds really neat. *g* (AHA! I've been to Fort Whoop Up! Trust me to recall that name from my childhood travels around the country in the back of our family van!) I've been checking out their website and I definitely like the size of the place. Edmonton's still a little too big for me to really feel comfortable, but I'm finding that a lot of the rural law offices don't have the client base to justify hiring an articling student.
Thanks so much for all this! :-D This is neat stuff to know!
