This is a Romanian film about the historical Dracula, which tells the story of his main reign from taking the Wallachian throne in 1456 to his arrest on the orders of Matthias Corvinus in 1462. It isn't legally available to buy in the UK, so I watched it on Youtube (complete with English subtitles), partly to see if it would help me in my current ( Read more... )

My first thought when seeing the photos was "Laibach".

Hmm, so maybe that's what Dracula goes on to do after his arrest at the end of the film - form an industrial band? Makes a lot of sense...

Haha, yes! That's definitely him. Except for maybe the cross - not vampire-friendly! ;-)

I totally love that one. Dan always finds stuff like that on youtube and we regularly do some Romanian-History-Movie watching marathons :D.

Oh, cool! Nice to know I am not the only person on my f-list who's seen it. Do feel free to recommend any other Romanian films you've enjoyed, as obviously they're all helpful from a language-learning perspective.

I'll tell Dan to put together a list of links for you :D. I just watch them, he does the research. Alas, most of them don't have subtitles, but I am sure he can find some who do.

Ah,yes - of course. Non-subtitled ones will definitely be beyond me for now, but yes, if he knows of any good subtitled ones, that would be fab! :-) Thank you (and him) so much.

I knew Dracula didn't have Billy Boufant hair!! ;-)

I didn't spot any scenes in which his horse displayed an uncanny ability to hunt vampires, either! Proper Langella review is next on my list...

Am looking forward to it :-)

I still can't believe the lady who said the 'love' scene between Lucy and Dracula was her favourite and sexiest scene in a movie ever.

Jemaine Clement (I BET YOU THOUGHT I'D FORGOTTEN MY OBSESSION WITH HIM: WELL, I HADN'T) is in a bizarre and utterly hilarious vampire comedy called What We Do In The Shadows and he's a spitting image of Mr. Sileanu here:

I think you'd enjoy this movie, by the way. I hadn't laughed that hard at a film in a long, long time.

YES! The lovely ms_siobhan saw this late last year at the Leeds International Film Festival, and has been raving about it ever since. Sadly, I haven't had the pleasure yet, because it doesn't have a general release in the UK, but I'm keeping a watchful eye out.

It does look ace from the trailer, and you're right that Jemaine is rocking the Vlad Ţepeş look. :-) Also, it would never have occurred to me to think your obsession with him had waned! Some things are forever.

Aha, brilliant! Thanks for letting me know. I'll let ms_siobhan know, as I know she's quite keen to see it again. Are you going yourself?
