Seen on Tuesday with ms_siobhan, planet_andy and their chums Phil and Tony at the Cottage Road cinema.

I've wanted to see the American TV series this is based on ever since my mid-teenage years spent poring over a book named Horrorshows - my personal filmic and televisual Horror bible. Sadly, I've still yet to have the pleasure, but my appetite has definitely been ( Read more... )

Yeah, apparently quite a few of the musical aspects of the film are just slightly anachronistic like that. Probably because 1973 was basically the best year in music, ever. They should have just set it then, really.

As for Christopher Lee - well, I'll make sure I don't seek out the blog you're talking about, because I think it would just be too sad.

I agree with you on the gender politics; I was cringing throughout the entire film, especially wrt Angelique. I've not seen the original series either, so I can't speak as to how much of the gender stuff was inherited (though it still should've been updated...)

The Alice Cooper part was my fav, esp how they turned it into meta by bringing in both the musician and the seventeenth century witch who he believed he was reincarnted as! I may have to buy some of his stuff (I didn't get the chance to copy my mother's entire music collection...).

Eva Green is in a recent film called Clone with Matt Smith. It's...well, it's very good but exceedingly disturbing. I just saw it a few days ago and it rather squicked me.

Alice is brill. I'm seriously tempted to get some more of his stuff now myself. And I love him all the more for being game to play cameos in films like this - just as I always have done since his brilliant appearance in Wayne's World.

I've just read the synopsis for Clone (aka Womb, apparently), and I see what you mean! I might add it to my list all the same, though.

Have you ever seen the ep of Monk he's in? I don't recall the title, but he plays a version of himself who Monk (in a medficated or delirious state) belives wants to steal a chair or take over the world or something. (yes, I'm aware this is not terribly helpful).

It's a good film with good performances, just...well. Squick. :P Not helped by the press release trying to position Matt Smith's character as 'the Doctor turning up in another dimension'!

Yes, I have! I am quite a big Monk fan, actually - have watched pretty much every episode of it now (though not systematically, and not always in order).

It was a top load of nonsense and I *so* want a fireplace with dogs on it that leads to a secret chamber full of treasure and Johnny Depp's eye make up and sunglasses.

I realised browsing Wikipedia pages afterwards that Johnny Depp's make-up must have been several inches thick. This is what his skin actually looks like now.

Have been enjoying your Scarborough pics on FB, BTW! Will look forward to hearing all about it later.

Dracula AD 1972 anyone?

*nod* Practically every Dracula film has this plot, actually - the virgin Good Girl vs. the sexually active Bad Girl. The Bad Girl gets vamped of course - every single time. But at least those films have the excuse of having been made in the '50s / '60s / early '70s. This one doesn't.
