One long social whirl

Oct 22, 2005 13:04

This weekend is Quiet. An oasis of calm amidst the madness. There's a bunch of stuff I could be going out to (in fact, should be going out to, really), but I'm deliberately dividing my time this weekend between venues no more demanding than my bed, my sofa, and my bath. Oh, and my computer, I guess ( Read more... )

social events, oxford, planning, childish excitement, birmingham, belfast, significant dates

Ooh, great icon! It's really getting me in the autumnal mood. :)

At least I've remembered about my Dad a couple of months in advance this time. It's always so annoying every year when I think of one present idea, feel really pleased with myself, and then realise I have to do it all over again.

I'm certainly most excited about the ball. And what about you in damien_mocata's latest lot of Cornie and Octocon pics, eh? Definitely a very classy lady, there!

Sorry about being awkward with the Xmas meal, but this is what I'm up to that weekend, so you can see how it's really not get-out-able. ..

Masquerade Ball does sound fantastic!

Ah, yes, of course - I remember you posting about that, though hadn't logged the date. There's still other people we're waiting to hear from on the mailing list anyway, so you may not be the only one who can't make that weekend, and the one after may still be possible. Must go and do a bit more work on looking up suitable cottages, actually...

If there's *any* chance it does work out as the following weekend, that would be fab, as then I could go. Especially if it does become a weekend thing, which would be lovely!

As you'll see from my email to the Bristol Road list, there are some places which are available only for the 3rd weekend in December, and also that most places aren't any more expensive for that weekend than the 2nd. So it's actually reasonably likely, and would certainly suit me, since it would mean I could see Chris Barber in B'ham on the 2nd weekend in Dec. We'll see what people say about their availability.

Now that's what I call forward planning!!! :D

...Much time to be spent with the Irish Boy, natch, while judging from a recent conversation we might well have an Irish Girl to play with too.
Ooooh, you lucky ducks! ;)

Hanging around with damien_mocata brings such fabulous fringe benefits, doesn't it? He rawks.

I am quite fancying this Oxford Dark Masquerade Ball thing myself and may be lured to the April WGW.

Oh, do - come to both! I should especially enjoy seeing you let loose at Whitby: I see heads rolling at 90 paces under the onslaught of your razor-sharp tongue.

I totally would offer you crash space in Oxford after the ball.... except that I'm afraid the aforementioned Hot Date probably rather precludes that. My flat is pretty small and has very thin walls, and while I don't want to count my chickens about how the date will end, I don't want to blow my options either! I'm really sorry about that, but hope you'll understand, and will gladly do whatever I can to help you find a suitable alternative if you decide to come. I do know that the Randolph Hotel is offering concessions for ball-goers - still quite pricey, but worth it if you feel like wallowing in absolute luxury for a night.

Are you interested in doing some sort of co-ordinated costume effort? I'm going to need to buy a new mask anyway because my standard Venetian one is red. I will need to re-read/watch the thing before I have any good ideas, though.

Also, having read this entry and certain of the comments I am grinning hugely. And blushing. And feeling really rather anticipatory and smug ;)

Ooh, yes - what a brilliant idea. I have vague memories of dancing couples in the film whose costumes are related, although I couldn't say how at the moment. I am currently bidding on a copy of it on Ebay, though, so with luck will be better-informed before long. And may even be able to provide screen-caps.

I wonder if the organisers will herald the end of the ball by having a stranger dressed in red stride commandingly into the room, while the music falls silent and everybody turns round to gasp in horror and then faint dead away on the floor? Would be cool...

All blushing, grinning, anticipation and smugness may be considered mutual, and most enjoyable too. :)
