Musings about fic

Oct 29, 2008 00:27

Last week, I put together an index of all the fic I've written in the two years I've been on LJ. Today I did a bit of poking around with the numbers.

Apparently I've written 55 drabbles, 12 ficlets (under 500 words), 19 stand-alone fics and 6 multi-chapter fics with 24 chapters between them, for a total of 110 individual items of fiction. That comes ( Read more... )

meta, fic index

I checked and didn't see -- was the Buffy/Buffy actual 'romance' or just the meeting of each other in the time travely one?

NaNoWriMo participants are expected to write 50,000 words in a single month

URGH. For me, that's two whole episodes ;)

And thanks for the masterlist, in part because it reminded me to remind Foamy to update his own. Can you *believe* "Dawn Of the Dead" isn't on there? Sacrilege, I say!

It was the time-travel one, and I count it as romance because of the scene where they got all snuggly on the couch and went upstairs together holding hands, and Buffy invited Buffy to spend the night in her room then got all embarrassed because she hadn't realised how sexual that sounded - and the older Buffy was well aware of the sexuality of the situation but decided it was just too kinky for her. But there was definitely UST going on there.

Keeping fic master lists updated is really hard. :-(

Actually, Dawm Of The Dead is at the top of Foamy's drabble list...

Oh bah. That's what I get for not checking, but then again, it never occurred to me that something made of tons of drabbles still counted as one. Then again, my definition of "drabble" stops somewhere after a thousand words, instead of right at one hundred...

As soon as I saw you'd written Tara/Kennedy I had to race over and check it out. ♥ It's totally one of my guilty crack!pairings.

Did you find it?* I have to admit, it's only a really brief scene and all they do is flirt and put their arms round each other. I don't want to get your hopes up too much...

*It's Chapter 2 of 'And All My Secrets Laid Bare'.

I found it. :D And even though it was small, it was still awesome.

And how many words of lit. crit. have you written about Buffy?

Depends on your definition. Most of my meta is about the characters and themes and storyline taken on their own merits, rather than analysing how the writers created the work and communicated their messages. Does that still count as lit crit?

And the other answer is, I don't know. :-)

I'd count it.

I think I don't do Spike for a couple of reasons:

Most of my fic is either pre- or post-series, and I prefer to stick closely to canon. I don't really like writing anti-heroes or darkfic, so making an evil vampire my main character isn't an attractive option, which rules out pre-series fics about him. Canonically, Buffy doesn't even know he's still alive after the end of 'Chosen', so that rules out a lot of options too.

Writing Spike in character would mean being sarcastic and British. Since that's what I'm like in real life, it would feel too autobiographical. :-)
(I think that's also the reason I've shied away from writing hetero sex scenes).

Innnteresting. :) I've never bothered with a fic index, since I link them all in my sidebar, but now you've got me wondering about my statistics. I would estimate I've written far less individual fics, but many, many more words. :)

I decided I needed a fic index when I discovered that there's a maximum number of links you can include in your sidebar, and I'd just gone over it. :-)

I also notice that for the first year, I wrote almost nothing except drabbles; but this last year I've hardly written any, just longer works. So my average wordcount is likely to rise now...

I doubt I'd be anywhere close to the max, but I don't bother with the links section at all (mostly because I never tried to figure out how to use it) and just post all my links in the "blurb" box.
