Okay, I didn't read the review because I don't want to be too spoiled. But now I'm really curious since the reactions seem to be so polarizing. Is it a violent movie?

Very. The filmmakers are the guys who did Alien, I believe, so there's a bit of a hint. I think I read in some other reviews that they used the same CGI effects/designs they did for Alien because they self-produced this one and so were a bit tight on time and money. Personally I didn't remember the former so I watched this with a blank slate, so to speak, but it looks like it pissed a lot of people off.

It feels a lot like Independence Day, too, I guess.

if you go back 20-30 years movie makers were not afriad to have a plateu ending or a "bad" ending or no ending at all, but you hardly ever see that today but I think it needs to get done more.
