Political argh!

The sooner we get around to dismantling the Democratic and Republican parties, the better this nation will be. Representatives are supposed to represent their STATES, not their parties, dammit!

I'm also beginning to think that the 17th amendment was a bad idea.

Death to political parties!

I've never understood why states should have rights apart from those of their residents.

I'd rather just do away with electing specific people, at least in the senate. The people who show up to vote should be employees of the party, who can be replaced by the party, and who have voting power in proportion to the last election's results.

Besides, the constitution was written on the premise that we would not have political parties. That didn't even survive the Washington administration.

Why do you think that the 17th Amendment was a bad idea? I don't see Senators elected by state legislatures or appointed by state governors as less likely to be ruled by political bias. Indeed, that would seem to be more likely in that case, as opposed to the general elections which we have now.

I don't see the problem with the 17th amendment. Could you elaborate?

I've been starting to think it's an issue because my gut feeling is that "Bread and Circuses" with a side of "War, because we can" is what we get when the vox populi is followed to elect both houses.

In further discussions elsewhere with niteshad, I'm now wondering if the actual solution is term limits for both houses of the legislature.

Term limits are good and bad. Years ago my first reaction to term limits was lets do it. (Thinking of having the Nancy and Harry show tossed out on their ears sounds really good right now) But later in life I realized experience in either house is both a curse and an advantage ( ... )
