Political argh!

The sooner we get around to dismantling the Democratic and Republican parties, the better this nation will be. Representatives are supposed to represent their STATES, not their parties, dammit!

I'm also beginning to think that the 17th amendment was a bad idea.

Death to political parties!

Term limits are good and bad. Years ago my first reaction to term limits was lets do it. (Thinking of having the Nancy and Harry show tossed out on their ears sounds really good right now) But later in life I realized experience in either house is both a curse and an advantage.

Experience in either house breeds both wisdom and contempt. Experienced legislators know where the bodies are buried, who can be trusted and who the con artists are. They also know the difference between a political bluff and a real concern. But most of all, they know the long term programs and why we are doing them. (And in spite of that those twits still killed the f-22...)

Green legislators hit the door wide eyed and wanting to change the world. They don't have the background and other then white papers, aren't likely to get the inside stories right away. They are easily intimidated by their parties and the President. Because they want to "do" something in office they are easy targets of lobbyists selling even the most questionable projects.

A legislator that has a ten year track record that wants a shot at the White House has a much more detailed report card for voters to look at then say... our current President.

Another problem with term limits is that it imposes the will of the entire country on individual states. If a given state's legislators are continually reelected by their constituents, they've got to be doing something right. Even it that something is the mother of all con jobs.

The voters of those states want those legislators working for them or they wouldn't have that job. It is not up to the nation as a whole to dictate to the state who will and will not best represent their interests in the capital.

There are evils to both, term limits and career politicians. Right now I'm leaning toward no term limits. The state voters can always vote them out if they screw up too badly. But based on your favoring term limits, I'm guessing the ones you want voted out are not losing their races.
