All my available cope is going toward final projects for school right now, so I'm not doing much else or being social. Mentally, I'm really at about my worst since grad school in Syracuse and I don't know why. I'd really like to stop being afraid and anxious about, well, everything.

Our Disaster Recovery Plan includes freezing paperwork (find a local business with commercial freezers), and then getting a freeze-dry company to sublimate the ice. Less labour-intensive than drying sheets of paper one by one, and less likely for ink or photographs to be damaged when pulling them apart.

Sounds like good stuff! And I love that you are at least somewhat familiar with that plan: staff training makes a huge difference.

I know of two examples of flood damage at museums in NY: The Guy Park Manor museum in Amsterdam, NY which was devastated by Hurricane Irene in 2011, and The Corning Glass Museum in Corning, NY which took a major hit from Hurricane Agnes in 1972. In both cases, parts of the collections were forever lost or destroyed in the flooding.

Troy had a good comment about freeze-drying papers and books after flooding.

The thought of museums and archives dealing with things like this hurts my heart, but of course it happens.

I think I read a chapter on disaster mitigation in my museum management course. Wow, that seems like forever ago but it was just a year or so before we saw the Royal Gorge bridge together.

I can't put off a database change much longer. I think Filemaker will be my new tool.

Time seems so weird between everything going on in the world. It seems like forever ago and yesterday I got to visit you and see Colorado!
