The Case Against Sailor-Duel-Racer-Armista

On Setpember 19th, 2009, we received a report from masterofthepen of a possible plagiarism of her unfinished story "OSR Season 2: A Shining Tomorrow", by an author by the name of Sailor-Duel-Racer-Armista, who had posted the story on fanfiction.net under the title, "Oban Star Racer". What I fail to understand is why she doesn't see anything wrong with stealing someone else's work.

And that is part of the problem. She felt that the story was abandoned and that the OP would never finish it. Therefore, in her mind, she was actually helping the OP by finishing her story for her and sharing it with the world because it was too good a story to languish in terminal WIPness.

But then why not credit her for the first twelve chapters? Of course, it would still have been wrong since she did not have any permission.

wrong yes, but at least not plagiarism.

As for why she didn't credit, I do not know. I can only theorize. And my theory is that she had such a strong attachement to the story that she felt a sense of entitlement or ownership.

Like fandom taken to an unhealthy length. I can't even begin to chronical the arguments of a similar nature over Joss Whedon's work. The fans are so strongly attached to the work, that they will vehemently argue that as the consumer of the product, they are in control of the story because they are the ones interpreting the final product. And that the author has no say because they the fans are the ones who truly own the story.

I was looking back at old cases, when I stumbled upon this case. http://www.fanfiction.net/~sailorduelracerarmista has this story on her FF.net account. I'm pretty sure that it's still a copy and paste of masterofthepen's story. Should I make a new report for this or should I not bother?
