Plagiarist: lone_she_wolf

I discovered today that something I wrote was stolen. lone_she_wolf (who is HauntedbyBob on the SciFi forums, TheGoblinKing on Fanfiction.net and Mandy on MySpace) took something that I never imagined anyone would appropriate, much less claim was theirs.

lone_she_wolf posted a story about odd things on Harry's answering machine. Okay. Nothing wrong with that. However, thisRead more... )

Hello. I'll be the mod working on your case.

To clarify, are you saying that the disclaimer that she'd read an outgoing message somewhere was added after you contacted her? By chance do you have screen caps of those versions or are the screen caps you have since then?

Yes, she added the disclaimer afterwards.

I have two screencaps without the disclaimer. I'm working with a friend on uploading--I tried for an hour but LJ Scrapbook wouldn't take them.

No worries. Sometime over the weekend is fine. I've got caps of what they look like now, so I only need the "then".

Thanks.

To quote our info page: Members of this community are expected to be courteous at all times, though not necessarily pleasant. What counts as 'discourteous' remains at the discretion of the moderators.

I am invoking that policy and deleting the message. You are welcome to be part of the discourse, but you are expected to do without swearing or name calling. If you are unclear what that does and doesn't entail, you can email me directly for clarity.

I have the original word document for Part 1. I'll send it to anyone who needs to see it. A word document on Windows (when you go to it's properties) tells you the last time the doucment was edited. The original word document for Part 1 has the disclaimer I described and the out-going phone message.

She was inspired by your phone message. This could have been handled so much better. The disclaimer was there saying she did not take credit because it was not hers, but she did not know who wrote it. There are many things I have read that I do not remember who originally wrote ( ... )

This is a very troubeling case though it's long over. From what I read, Lone She Wolf apologized many times for not putting a disclaimer in part II of her posts yet, I have not seen a single apology from the one who raised the plagerism allegation in an inaccurate manner. Why should she not be admonished for knowingly stating that this person claimed the writing was hers when clearly she did not? This went beyond an understandable misunderstanding and IMO, she would have shown a lot of class and upheld the legitimate goals of this LJ by issueing an apology. The consequences to Lone She Wolf are that she's on a watch list. Shouldn't someone who knowingly mis-states their case have some consequences too???

No - I don't know either party or their writings.

She never apologized to me once. Not in an e-mail, not in a private message, not in a post. I don't know where you read that she did, but she did not.

In the decision post, I included an update which she put to the beginning of her post at Fanfiction.net. It included the following: I had never meant disrespect. I certainly did not want credit for what is not mine. I had just liked it very much and I apologize. I had even mistakenly started to think that perhaps the away notice I was recalling was something mentioned in the original novels but apparently I was mistaken.

Ah, okay. I missed that. And I didn't go back to her post on FFnet, so I didn't see it there. Thank you for telling me.
