Well, I never thought it would happen to me.

I have been plagiarised. Whoo! [/sarcasm]

My story Silence, which was written for SG-1, has been reposted with the names changed as a Torchwood story, Isolation, by wickedplotbunny.

Here is my line by line comparison of the first three or four paragraphs. I didn't have the energy to do more.

Unfortunately, I don't have the original date that my story was ( Read more... )

I located a challenge site that this author posted works to. I posted a comment to the mods to let them know that this author was found to be a plagiarist and provided a direct link back to this site for them to view the steady growing list of fics this author has stolen. I also asked them to remove those fics from their site if any of those fics appeared here in the listings. The challenge community is wintercompanion.

Here's hoping that helps stop this author in their tracks.

Thanks :) It's a sad thing to say, but while this might be the first time I've actually been plagiarised myself, it's not the first time I've had to deal with it.

The downside of running archives for 8 years. And this time at least it hasn't involved pseuicide ::g::

I have forgotten the other name this person has gone by. This is at least her second or third alias she has used. She has been prolific at this for the past (at least) eight months to a year.

She has also stolen vids in the past....

I notice from a google search that she has a youtube profile but the only vids she's hosting on there at the moment aren't fandom related.

it's been awhile since she was reamed (approx. 8 months) for taking other vids and calling them her own. Hopefully, she took them down. Or, you tube did.

It could be that this is a completely new thief. The one I was thinking of, and I thought this was her as this thief was demonstrating the same level of thievery and belief she wouldn't be caught. It appears to be a disease that is spreading. Emotionally retardant twits, who seem to need laud for work, even though they did not write it.

They have some balls...

Hi, Just want to drop a note to say thanks for the heads up. I apprecate your hard work in tracking this. Why the hell anyone would do this... Since I have never been plagerised before (that I know of) what happens now? Do I need to contact the sites she uses, or will the probable flood of complaints take care of that?

Thanks so much.

Pewter,

I'm sorry that you're one of the people she's plagiarized.

As for contacting the sites, it happens a variety of ways. Particularly within Live Journal, the mods of these communities hear about it pretty fast. But to be on the safe side, once I've gathered up all the information about what Wickedplotbunny posted and where (and made screen caps), I as a mod of this community get in touch with the mods of the other communities and they are usually quite responsive about pulling plagiarized fic, etc. So you don't need to do anything with that piece of things.

If you can pass on the word to others in SG1 fandom to have a look to see if they recognize these stories, that would be great.

Absolutly I will. Thanks so much for all your work. I wouldn't have even know this was going on without my list and you guys. I really apprecate it. Let me know if I can do anything else to help here, or with any plagerism. I don't want writers to be afraid to post because of a few lazy, uncreative twits like this one. How can I help?

Well, one of the things that would be really helpful and for which I don't have the proper time is to contact all of the known authors who have been plagiarized so that they are aware of the situation as well.

Would you have the time to do that? Particularly given that the source material is all over the place, it would be a huge help.

Thanks to everyone for getting on this. I'm more than happy to look through unidentified fics to see what I recognize. I've got a very SG-1-fic-friendly flist and I'd be happy to share a list of the unidentified fics if I can get my hands on one.

I'm sorry that she ripped off one of your stories too. It looks now as though she's also ripped off stories from Star Trek and Stargate: Atlantis as well as pro fic, so we're in rapidly expanding company :)

Ah, company. An elitist no longer. ;)

And for your chart, I did a minimal side-by-side comparison for my fic here: http://theemdash.livejournal.com/659206.html
