Reporting a plagiarist: Katie-baum at fanfiction.net

Oct 13, 2007 11:48

I was alerted this morning that one of my stories had been plagiarized.

On 9/12/07, Katie-baum of fanfiction.net posted the first installment of a One Tree Hill story called Unidentified. Other than changes to names and pronouns, this story is word-for-word identical to my SGA story Unidentified, which I posted on 7/8/07 (first installment here, ( Read more... )

It appears that Katie-baum has fessed up completely and removed the various fics.

If you would like to either post here or email me the links, I can put together an official summary post.

Links to the screencaps of her versions as well as links to the original fics - is what I meant by links. Thanks!

The original story can be found here, and I've got a couple of screencaps I can send to you if you tell me which email address I should direct them to.

As far as I know, my part in this was more or less resolved after she removed the stories from FFnet. However, there were several other authors plagiarized, and I believe some people had found plagiarized stories she had posted at other sites. I'm going to let them know this post is up and direct them to bring evidence here, since I don't know if she's removed the stories located at other sites.

Thanks for your help!

Hi! I'm the mod that will be reviewing this case. Could you email me the screencaps that you have? sevvy_o[at] livejournal [dot]com

Have you been able to contact the other authors? Are there any screencaps from those stories?

She's fessed up, but appears to have changed her username to a collection of letters. This means, presmuably, that none of the readers who thought that the stories were hers, and who praised them to the skies, will ever find her confession that she duped them. Katie-baum will have just disappeared off their radar.

Neat.

Can someone else take that username now and duplicate her confession? I'm not sure how ff.net works with regard to usernames....

No idea, I'm afraid. But it just stuck in my craw that she's actually wriggled out of any real public confession. Her contrition isn't worth the byte space it's taking up.

Anyone who has her as a favourite will I think link to her user number in the first instance, so they'll still see this if they check out her "latest work"

I don't have much, just this info, and I think most of it's been deleted. She is in the comments of that posts where she says that she's never posted to any other sites but FF.net (untrue) and gets called out for it.

Has she removed your stories from that tube.alicious site? I can't navigate it very well from my computer.
